The first bulldozer was adapted from the Holt farm tractors, which its usage was to plow fields. The versatility of these tractors in soft ground for road building and logging had contributed with the development of the World War I armored tank. James Cummings a young farmer and Earl McLeod a draftman, had made the first designs of a bulldozer in 1923. The ripper is the large claw located in the back of the tractor. The rippers of the bulldozer come in a single shank or giant ripper and also in groups of two or more called multi shank rippers.
